If you’re finding it challenging to navigate the Overgrown Tunnel, allow us to guide you through the process.
Where to find the Overgrown Tunnel in Baldur’s Gate 3
To locate the Overgrown Tunnel in BG3, begin by entering the Sunlit Wetlands. Once you’re there, proceed to the northwestern part of the region and enter the Putrid Bog. As you navigate through the caverns, you’ll eventually arrive at the entrance to the Overgrown Tunnel. However, you’ll encounter what appears to be an impenetrable Gnarled Door at first.
Remarkably, the Gnarled Door in Baldur’s Gate 3 turns out to be an illusion, a revelation you’ll make later on. There’s a discreet yet straightforward method for bypassing this door: the Whispering Masks.
How to get through the Overgrown Tunnels
In order to access the Overgrown Tunnel, your initial task is to open the Gnarled Door. There exist two straightforward methods for gaining entry to the Overgrown Tunnel door in BG3. It’s worth noting that if you find yourself trapped within the Overgrown Tunnel, your way forward can be unlocked by leaping through the waterfall.
Getting through the Gnarled Door
The primary and recommended approach to pass through the Gnarled Door involves utilizing the Whispering Masks. These masks can be found scattered randomly on the ground. To proceed, simply pick up one of these masks, put it on, and walk through the Gnarled Door without encountering any hindrance. However, it’s crucial to remember to remove the Whispering Mask as soon as you’ve crossed the door to prevent your character from succumbing to madness.
Alternatively, another method to traverse the Gnarled Door in BG3 is to scroll the camera until you have a view of the area on the opposite side of the door. Once you scroll back out, your characters will automatically pass through the door. It’s important to note that during this process, the area on the opposite side may appear darker than usual, but this is only because you haven’t physically entered it yet.
Getting through the Noxious Fumes
Upon entering the Overgrown Tunnel by crossing the Gnarled Door, you’ll find yourself surrounded by a multitude of adversaries. Dealing with these foes proves challenging, but navigating the treacherous Noxious Fumes is the second, and perhaps more daunting, hurdle when traversing the Overgrown Tunnel in BG3, as this tunnel is tainted with poison.
Normally, you can dispel Noxious Fumes with a spell, but these particular fumes are unique. The Overgrown Tunnel’s Noxious Fumes are sustained by concealed vents hidden within the noxious mist itself, continuously replenishing their toxic properties in Baldur’s Gate 3.
To eliminate these Noxious Fumes, you must obstruct the vents directly. This entails using the Mage Hand ability on a Wizard or any of your characters, in conjunction with a disposable item.
The tactic involves placing an item atop the vents to obstruct their gas release. You can momentarily dispel the Noxious Fumes using one of your spells. Once dispelled, you need to locate the vents, and using an item, seal them off. In this scenario, it’s essential to have a Rogue or a character capable of detecting these traps. If you lack a suitable item, you can always utilize the Whispering Masks since they are no longer needed.
Upon reaching the initial Noxious Fumes section, select one of your characters and traverse the ladder. Once there, disable one of the vents to clear a small area, creating space for your other party members.
The following area with the noxious fumes poses a somewhat challenging obstacle. The vent responsible for these fumes is situated in the southwestern corner. It may require some trial and error before successfully blocking this particular vent.
Once you’ve successfully navigated past the Noxious Fumes, it’s crucial to continuously conduct Perception checks to identify any Peculiar Flowers in the vicinity, as they can inflict harm upon you.
Ordinarily, one would aim to avoid Noxious Fumes; however, this case presents an exception. That’s because an exhilarating boss battle against the Hag awaits just ahead. Be prepared for a formidable challenge in this boss fight. Therefore, it’s advisable to utilize every available potion at your disposal, particularly healing potions, to enhance your chances of victory.
Can we save the people in the overgrown tunnel?
In Baldur’s Gate 3, it is indeed possible to rescue all the enchanted individuals within the Overgrown Tunnel. However, this rescue can only be executed after defeating Auntie Ethel. The captives meet an unfortunate fate as soon as their masks are removed, owing to Auntie Ethel’s spells binding each of them. Consequently, the most effective strategy for her elimination involves positioning all your team members around the central hole.
Utilize ranged attacks to neutralize Auntie Ethel while ensuring no harm comes to the individuals wearing masks. Additionally, identify the genuine Ethel by dispatching her clones, and ultimately, employ a close-range assault to eliminate her.
