In the Starfield side quest “Captain’s Bounty,” your character is compelled to assume the identity of an accused thief in order to evade a relentless bounty hunter.

This particular side quest involves pivotal decision-making moments that can result in substantial rewards or leave you grappling with the weight of having condemned the alleged thief to a life marked by a perpetual target on their back.

How to unlock the Captain’s Bounty mission

You need to find Adella Faheem at HopeTech in Hopetown to unlock the Captain’s Bounty mission in Starfield. She will be standing outside the Pit Stop. Speak with her to know what has her on edge.

How to complete Captain’s Bounty in Starfield

Adella, when speaking with you, exudes an air of nervousness, and understandably so. It appears that she has incurred the displeasure of certain factions, resulting in someone from those groups placing a bounty on her head.

Furthermore, Adella discloses that a bounty hunter, affiliated with the Tracker’s Alliance, has successfully tracked her to this location. In fact, he is presently situated within the confines of the Pit Stop.

She earnestly requests your assistance in assuming her identity, presenting yourself as Captain Faheem, and addressing the matter with the bounty hunter within.

Upon your agreement to aid her, your quest marker will guide you inside, prompting you to confront the bounty hunter who has arrived in pursuit of the Captain’s Bounty in Starfield.

Deal with Ernesto, the bounty hunter

The name of the bounty hunter is Ernesto. You’ll face a decision: either use your persuasion skills to convince him to abandon the Captain’s Bounty or take more drastic measures by eliminating him to eliminate the bounty. Each choice yields distinct consequences.

Should you persuade or kill Ernesto?

We strongly recommend opting for persuasion to convince Ernesto to let you go in Starfield. A reasonable persuasion check should suffice to sway him in your favor.

The persuasion approach not only yields the most rewards in the “Captain’s Bounty” quest but is also the smoother and less troublesome route. Electing to eliminate Ernesto may lead to a messy situation.

The issue with resorting to violence against Ernesto isn’t that he poses a formidable or high-level threat. Rather, it’s the potential collateral damage to the innocent bartender and patrons within the Pit Stop. If they are inadvertently harmed or killed in the chaos following Ernesto’s death, they’ll retaliate in anger, potentially resulting in a bounty being placed on your head.

As such, it is not advisable to pursue the path of killing or attacking Ernesto to complete “Captain’s Bounty” in Starfield. We recommend taking the precaution of saving your game before entering the Pit Stop and engaging with Ernesto.
