How to complete Cornered Serpent and defeat the Lord Zir boss in Diablo 4 Season 2
Preparation
Before you rush headlong into Lord Zir’s lair, be sure to heed the words of the Scout motto: “Be Prepared.” While this is a seasonal story quest and therefore not too difficult in terms of Diablo 4 content, the subsequent battle with Lord Zir is actually very difficult , so you should give him his due.
This means you should be around the level 35 mark in terms of your character’s skill point progression, you should have a solid build worked out, and you should be farming some powerful gear in Blood Muster as it’s easier than ever . and now. Once all this is done, feel free to head to the City of the Ancients and talk to Eris to begin the quest.
Conquest of the city of the ancients
As mentioned above, A Serpent Cornered begins in the City of the Ancients, immediately after completing the quest A Battle of Fear and Faith. You will need to enter the City through the Dark Path in the southern part of the Broken Peaks and then talk to Eris to get the ball rolling.
The bulk of this quest involves you fighting your way through the City of the Ancients on your way to Zir. It’s a fairly long dungeon, but it’s also mostly linear, so it’s hard to get lost along the way. All of the enemies are also pretty easy, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble taking them down even if you ignored the great advice in the Preparation section above.
However, the City has a couple of interesting features. First of all, Lord Zir in the form of a red ball will chase you throughout the Dungeon. He will alternate between firing projectiles and slow-moving waves of blood at you, both of which are fairly easy to avoid. However, it can be easy to forget he’s there in the heat of battle, so be sure to keep at least one eye on him at all times so he doesn’t catch you and leave you open to a quick death from another enemy.
You will also have to face two mini-bosses in the City of the Ancients against two groups of powerful Blood Seekers. The first will be a duo match against Ebok and Tidao, and the second will be against the triple threat of Shay, Nyla and Nys. You’ll have at least some experience fighting the Bloodseekers after completing the Luring Thirst quest earlier, but if you need a refresher, the best strategy here is to deal with any surrounding smaller enemies and then focus them on one at a time. They have a lot of health, so you’ll probably have to use your Ultimate Skill to get through it all.
How to kill Lord Zir in Diablo 4 Season 2
Once you reach the end of the City of the Ancients, you will find that the main man himself is waiting for you at the Bloody Throne. Interacting with him will trigger a short cutscene, followed by the final battle against Lord Zir. Despite the low difficulty of the dungeon leading up to it, Lord Zir is actually quite a challenge and managed to kill me more times than I’d like to admit.
Much of his difficulty lies in his Blood Rain attack, in which he creates large pools of blood on the arena floor. They damage you if you touch them, and they have an annoying habit of spawning near Lord Zir, making it difficult for melee builds to find a safe place to attack. If you’re a ranged character like a Sorcerer or Necromancer, then this won’t be much of a problem for you, but melee characters will have to be patient and use their abilities when they can while Lord Zir moves around the room. .
In terms of other moves, Lord Zir has two melee options: a quick strike and a powerful scissor attack with both hands. The latter is signaled in advance when he holds both hands up, and naturally deals much more damage than the former if it hits, but both can be easily dodged by simply staying behind Lord Zir as long as possible .
Lord Zir can also summon Bloodseekers to join the battle. This is an annoying step, as Bloodseekers are bulky enemies that will soak up most of the damage you choose to direct at the boss, but you should always prioritize taking them out first, since leaving them alive can catch you when you least expect it. If you have a build that can hit both targets at once, such as Barbarian’s Whirlwind, try to do this for maximum effectiveness.
Last but not least, Lord Zir’s gust attack. Even though he’s well marked, thanks to Lord Zir’s wing flap and a large rectangular area on the ground indicating an approaching damage zone, he can still catch you if you’re not prepared and will deal massive damage if he does. does. In one of my attempts to defeat this boss, his gust of wind killed me in one hit at full health, despite the fact that I was playing with a relatively durable Barbarian class. For this reason, as soon as you see a rectangle appear on the ground, immediately start moving and, if necessary, evade its path .
Lord Zir has a lot of health, but if you follow all the tips above, try to always stay behind him, always deal with the Blood Seekers as soon as they appear, and be very aware of his wind gust attack, then you should be able to defeat him in a few tries. Once Lord Zir falls, Cornered Serpent will end, leaving only a final conversation with Eris between you and completing the Season 2 Seasonal Questline.
