In the vast universe of Starfield, you’ll come across a plethora of resources, including Iron, Helium-3, and more. Understanding how to generate these essential resources is paramount, as they play a crucial role at every juncture of your journey. Resources hold significant importance in Starfield, serving both as valuable crafting materials and as power sources, exemplified by Helium-3. While Iron can be mined relatively easily, extracting Helium-3 in Starfield poses a more intricate challenge.
Given that Helium-3 stands out as an ideal power source, having it readily available in your inventory can prove immensely advantageous. This guide is designed to assist you in effectively and safely mining Helium-3 with the Extractor, ensuring you harness this valuable resource to its full potential.
Best way to mine Helium-3 in Starfield
Once you’ve touched down on a planet in Starfield and Helium-3 becomes one of your available resources, you’ll find it listed in the planet’s description. Keep in mind that you can only access a planet’s resource list if you’ve already visited it.
To access the resource list of a planet you’ve explored, follow these controls: On PC, press ‘R,’ and on Xbox, press ‘LB’ while viewing the planet on the map. Notably, the most resource-rich planets are Kurtz (a moon of the Jemison planet in the Alpha Centauri System) and Anake (located in the Olympus Star System).
Once you’ve identified a planet with Helium-3, use fast-travel to reach it quickly, and then proceed to construct an Outpost. Please be aware that on certain planets with extreme environmental conditions, Outpost construction may not be possible. In such instances, you’ll need to accumulate points in your Planetary Habitation skill to enable Outpost setup.
After landing on the chosen planet, there are two methods for extracting Helium-3. The first involves approaching small vents and physically collecting the gas. However, this method is risky, as Helium-3 is toxic and can enter your lungs, instantly depleting your oxygen supply and causing coughing. It is not advisable due to its inefficiency and health hazards.
The second, safer approach is to employ a scanner to pinpoint the Helium-3 clusters. Once located, avoid direct contact and instead deploy an Outpost Beacon nearby. Then, proceed to set up a Helium-3 Extractor. To construct the Extractor, you’ll require 4 Nickel, 5 Aluminum, and 3 Copper materials.
With these materials in hand, access the Outpost’s build menu and place the Extractor. Following that, establish a power source for the extractor. Once the power source is operational, the extractor will autonomously collect Helium-3. To monitor the current supply, simply approach the extractor.
Why do you need Helium-3 in Starfield?
With a mass of 0.60 and a rating of 14, Helium-3 stands out as the optimal energy source for Starfield’s fuel generators. Utilizing this Helium-3-powered generator enables you to supply power to an Outpost.
To facilitate this process, employ the Gas Storage Container to store Helium-3 harvested from the Extractor, subsequently transferring it to the generator. Despite boasting an impressive base power output of 20, ensuring the generator’s consistent performance may necessitate periodic refueling with Helium-3.
