Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – will it be released on PC and when will it happen?
One of the main advantages of consoles over PC is, without a doubt, the ability to enjoy exclusive games. However, in recent years the situation has been changing, and many console exclusives, albeit with some delay, still appear on other platforms. Since the previous installments in the series were released on personal computers, many gamers and Spider-Man fans are wondering if and when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will suffer the same fate. Let’s try to understand this issue.
IS IT WORTH WAITING FOR THE PC VERSION OF MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN 2?
While it’s technically not a 100% guarantee that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will eventually come to PC, the recent history of Sony PlayStation exclusives and Insomniac Games projects makes it clear that this is the case. The previous two PC ports turned out to be very successful, as was another game from Insomniac – Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and we have not yet mentioned the rest of the high-profile Sony exclusives that have conquered other platforms, we are, of course, talking about God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.
In an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said that while PC ports remain part of the company’s strategy, they could come years after the initial console release, which could also happen with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
“We also fully understand the importance of PS5 exclusives . As I mentioned earlier, the main mission of PlayStation Studios is to give people the opportunity to fully enjoy the gaming experience on the latest PS5 . We are increasing the number of PS5 exclusive games and delaying the release of PC versions,” Ryan said.
IS THE RELEASE DATE KNOWN?
Based on recent trends, the estimated release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC could fall in the final months of 2025, possibly in October or November. This two-year timeline is primarily based on the timing of the ports of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, as those two latest Insomniac projects took about that long to reach PCs. Miles Morales was originally released in November 2020, and came out on PC in the same month two years later. Rift Apart was released in June 2021, and two years later, in July 2023, the PC version was released.
“I often have the opportunity to hear from gamers, and when I ask them about the expectation period, they say that the release of the PC version two to three years after the release on PS5 is viewed favorably,” Jim Ryan said in the same Famitsu interview.
Fortunately, there is no reason to believe that the wait will take much more than a couple of years, as has been the case with some past releases, and it may be even sooner. The likely release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC in late 2024 could bring the game to a whole new audience, who are likely already looking forward to the new adventures of Peter and Miles.
