“Into the Unknown” spawns two procedurally generated planets for you to investigate and find two more artifacts in Starfield.
“Into the Unknown” stands as the fifth primary campaign mission within the expansive universe of Starfield. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, involves embarking on a quest to locate two mysterious artifacts hidden on two randomly designated planets. The successful retrieval of these artifacts will bestow upon you an extraordinary superpower.
But that’s not all; your journey through the stars will require you to make a pivotal decision that will shape the course of the storyline. It is advised that adventurers aim to reach Level 10 before attempting this undertaking. To commence your quest, set your course for the Alpha Centauri system.
How to unlock the “Into the Unknown” mission
“Into the Unknown” will find its place in your mission log once you successfully conclude “The Old Neighborhood” mission within the expansive world of Starfield. To initiate this new quest, your next step is to rendezvous with Jemison at The Eye space station, gracefully encircling New Atlantis within the Alpha Centauri System.
How to complete Into the Unknown in Starfield
Once you’ve initiated the mission, make your way to the Eye space station by docking your vessel. Once there, your first task is to engage in a conversation with Vladimir, who will provide you with guidance on how to locate additional artifacts. These artifacts can be found on two different planets, and it’s worth noting that the selection of these planets is entirely random. As a result, the planets assigned to you may vary with each playthrough.
Visit and investigate the first planet
Upon touching down on the initial designated planet, you’ll soon come across a nearby dungeon. Interestingly, the exact layout of this dungeon is entirely randomized. An added bonus is that you can traverse this dungeon swiftly since it remains devoid of any adversaries.
Deep within, you’ll stumble upon a rich deposit of caelumite. Your trusty laser cutter will be your tool of choice to mine this valuable resource. As you do so, be prepared for a captivating cutscene that will immerse you in a hallucinatory experience.
Next, venture to and investigate the second planet in your quest. The designated waypoint will guide you to a cave entrance. Upon entering this cave, you’ll bear witness to Andreja dispatching an adversary. Following a brief conversation, Andreja will agree to join you on your quest to secure the artifact.
This partnership is beneficial since you’ll be thrust into a crossfire situation after this discussion. Make certain to equip yourself with a rifle and ensure your ammunition supply is well-stocked, as the foes you’ll encounter here pose a considerable challenge when faced with pistols and melee weapons.
Towards the end of the cave lies the coveted artifact. The extraction process mirrors that of the first artifact, so employ a similar approach to secure it.
Should you support your Dreams or Science?
You need to return to New Atlantis and talk to Matteo about both Artifacts in your inventory. After an argument, you will receive two options. You can either support “your dreams” or support “Science”.
Both options have different implications for the story. Siding with science will improve your relationship with the Constellation members. However, if you side with your dreams, Matteo will respect you more.
Visit Procyon III
Now you need to Talk to Vladimir who is located in the Eye. He will direct you to Procyon III, a planet that contains an anomaly. Land on the designated point and scan the area with your scanner. Follow the distortions that you see.
Investigate the Gravitational Anomaly
During your exploration on the Procyon III planet in Starfield, you’ll encounter numerous anomalies, including a Gravitational Anomaly. To delve deeper into this anomaly, your destination is the ETA Temple within the Starfield universe.
Locating Temple ETA can be efficiently achieved by utilizing your handheld scanner. Simply employ your scanner to pinpoint the origin of the gravitational anomaly until you reach a vast, dust-covered structure upon landing. Continue your approach, and you’ll discover an entrance nestled between two imposing rock pillars.
This entrance grants you access to the interior of the Temple, where your side objectives await. Within this space, you’ll encounter a Zero-G Effect that allows for graceful floating. Additionally, a series of rings occupies the central area of the temple.
Your mission is to energize these rings. To do so, interact with the substantial, shimmering stars positioned around each point of the room. This action will supply them with the necessary energy to coalesce into a single, cohesive ring.
Subsequently, engage with the now unified ring. This action will transport you into an anti-gravity realm, endowing you with the coveted anti-gravity power.
Return to Vladimir
Lastly, you must return to the Lodge and talk to Vladimir. Inform him about your newly found powers. He will ask you to demonstrate your powers. Furthermore, you can oblige him by lifting an object. Thus, concluding the mission.
Starfield – Into the Unknown mission rewards
After you have returned to the Lodge to show Vladimir your powers, you will complete the “Into the Unknown” mission in Starfield. Completing this mission grants the following rewards:
