Preventative Action sees you working as a bounty hunter for none other than Vae Victus, the one behind the attacks in Starfield.
“Preventative Action” serves as an expansion of the UC Vanguard faction questline within the Starfield universe. In this storyline, you assume the role of a professional assassin working under the orders of the dishonorably discharged admiral, Vae Victus, tasked with eliminating targets scattered throughout the galaxy.
However, fulfilling this position necessitates a pivotal decision-making moment during the questline. From your initial role as the Captain of the Supra Et Ultra to ultimately overcoming the Terramorphs, you find yourself at the culmination of the UC Vanguard questline. Let’s delve into the steps required to unlock the alternative ending for this questline.
How to unlock the Preventative Action mission
The “Preventative Action” side mission becomes accessible exclusively when you decide to spare Vae Victus in the midst of the “A Legacy Forged” faction mission within the Starfield universe.
To spare him from execution, you must engage in a deception that involves misleading both Hadrian and The Cabinet. This deception enables Vae Victus to achieve his goal of framing his colleague Orlase for the crimes, securing his own survival while assuming the role of an advisor to The Cabinet.
How to complete Preventative Action in Starfield
Commence your journey within the MAST District of New Atlantis, situated on Jemison within the Alpha Centauri System. Head towards the UC Vanguard building located on your right.
Descend via the elevator to Subsection Seven and establish contact with Vae Victus through the intercom placed on the table, much like your initial interaction during the Hostile Intelligence mission.
Vae Victus will come to recognize that you spared him during the Cabinet briefing, a decision that spared him from a grim UC Executioner’s fate.
In light of this, he will confide in you about his role in orchestrating the Terramorph attacks, stemming from his dissatisfaction with the UC’s perceived cowardice during the Colony War. With his daughter lauded as a hero and his own position as a trusted Advisor, he seeks your assistance in purging individuals whom he deems unsuitable for his vision of a civilized society.
Your mission entails assuming the role of Vae Victus’s hired assassin, with the task of eliminating the targets detailed within the data slate he provides.
Retrieve the slate containing target information from the Transfer System located next to the Secure Access door. He entrusts you to handle the situation as you see fit, taking into account the likelihood of encountering resistance along the way.
Eliminate each bounty target
With the details in hand, you will need to eliminate the targets as indicated by the marker. The locations of these targets are random for each playthrough. So you are likely going to get a different set of locations from other players. We got ours at an Abandoned Cryo Lab on Maheo III-B, a moon of Maheo III, in the Maheo Star System.
Obtain the next target from Vae Victus (optional)
Once you’ve successfully completed your bounty mission, you can return to Subsection Seven within The Cabinet to deliver your report to Vae Victus. He will express satisfaction with the results and assign you a new target.
As you consistently update Vae Victus on your progress, he will continuously provide you with fresh targets, rendering Preventative Action an ongoing, never-ending mission. This approach also presents an excellent opportunity to accumulate experience points and credits, especially if your resources are running thin.
Furthermore, because the mission locations are randomized, you’ll have the chance to explore previously undiscovered places within the vast expanse of the Starfield universe.
Starfield – Preventative Action mission rewards
The rewards for Preventative Action set it apart from other faction missions in Starfield. Upon completing each bounty, you’ll earn 125 XP and 2000 Credits. The total sum you accumulate hinges on the number of bounties you undertake, allowing you the flexibility to complete them at your own pace.
