Halloween is a busy time of year for the gaming industry, and many franchises are gearing up for spooky-themed events. Call of Duty is no different and is celebrating the Haunting event, which will be released in mid-October. The Haunting is a big event that affects everything from Warzone to MW2. What are Ghosts in MW2 and Warzone 2?
The Haunting launches on October 17, 2023 , bringing Halloween-themed events, modes, and maps to Call of Duty. These additions pair perfectly with this season’s spooky Battle Pass. There’s a lot going on, so here’s what to look out for in each game mode:

Haunting: Royal Zombie
Zombie Royale is a returning game mode that turns the traditional Battle Royale mode into a massive game of Infection. Operators will have to defend themselves from a horde of zombies. If they fall, they will rise from the dead as zombies to hunt the survivors. If past Zombie Royales are anything to go by, this event is a slap in the face and the zombies have superpowers to level the field against their armed opponents.
Ghosts: Wonded Lockdown
This mode is similar to Hardpoint’s multiplayer mode, but on a larger scale. If you prefer a battle royale game with some objective play thrown in, this mode is for you. Vondead Lockdown takes place on Vondel at night.
Operation Nightmare
Details about Operation Nightmare are scarce. What little we know is cryptically described in the official Call of Duty blog post, with most of the information listed as [Redacted]. The mission statement mentions “Master Weapon Blueprint”. I don’t know about you, but that’s all the incentive I need to take on the undead head-on.
Ghosts: Equipment and Items
Three limited-time items have been confirmed for Warzone. These are the Captured Souls, the Bloodseeker Grenade, and the Haunted Box. Trick or Treat: Jump Scares returns from previous Halloween events. Every container you find has a chance to trigger a Jump Scare, so be careful if you don’t want to throw your controller across the room!
Warzone 2: Demilitarized Zone
It seems DMZ has fallen in love with Halloween too. According to the official blog post, “The DMZ focuses on nightly hunting of supernatural beings throughout Al Mazrah.” We’ll have to wait and see what that means, but this post also eludes other “ghost” events happening in the DMZ.
Modern Warfare 2
Modern Warfare 2 will also be getting a dose of Halloween content with two map redesigns and an exciting twist on several game modes.
Are there rewards in the Ghost Event?
In Warzone and MW2, players will earn “Souls” by defeating other players, which can be spent on themed items. During the event, you can also earn daily login rewards.
